That's the tapir indoor enclosure. The anteaters (2 females, Ilse and Emilia), tapirs (2 males, Tibor and Dezsö), capybaras but also the vicuñas, rheas and seriemas often do visit their neighbours' homes and eat the rest of their neighbours' dinner. Especially Tibor and Dezsö are pretty fond of Ilse and Emilia's mealworm porridge. It's really funny to watch them. :D

Are all six species mixed in the same exhibit?:) That would be very cool to see

Yes, they are. Last autumn a third anteater, Silva, from Colchester joined the group. It's great fun to watch the anteaters playing together. The tapirs love to wake up the anteaters and vice versa. The tapirs also love to have dinner with the vicuñas (their hay seems to taste much better than the tapirs' one :D). Sometimes one of the vicuñas sleep indoor in the tapir's area of the house. During winter the seriemas live in the area of the anteaters in the house. That works without any problems too.

brilliant Jola! Thanks for the info! I wish i could see the animals together! will have to add vienna to my must sees this year! :)

You're wellcome, Al. You should add Zoo Vienna to your must sees, it's a very special place. South America Park is one of my favourite enclosures there. There is always a lot of fun, you can feel how happy the animals are there. Find some photos and videos here: "Südamerika-Park" at Zoo Vienna
