Last weekend I visited Zoo Duisburg and was able to see the large Gorilla-group which is kept there. At the moment no less then 11 Gorilla's are at Duisburg : - Mapema 1.0 born 1996 at Jersey - Momo 0.1 born 1982 Stuttgart - Ayo ? born 2015 Duisburg ( Mapema x Momo ) - Suwedi 1.0 born 2011 Duisburg ( Mapema x Safiri ) - Jamila 0.1 born 2012 Duisburg ( Mapema x Vizuri ) - Vizuri 0.1 born 1995 Zürich - Uzuri 0.1 born 2008 Duisburg ( Mapema x Vizuri ) - Safiri 0.1 born 1996 Apenheul - Kiburi 0.1 born 2008 Duisburg ( Mapema x Safiri ) - unnamed baby ? born 2016 Duisburg ( Mapema x Safiri ) - unnamed baby ? born 2016 Duisburg ( Mapema x Vizuri In an old guidebook from around 1980 I found a small list of Gorillas kept at Duisburg at that time and because we have several Gorilla-spezialists here on ZooChat I would like to know what happened with those animals ( Zootierliste mention several were send to other collections ( Valencia and Amsterdam ) but a little more information would be welcome. So who has information about the following wild-catched animals : -Didi -Kumba -Yuka -Gigi -Catou Also I would like to know the sex of Ayo because I didn't find any informtion about this either.
There is a website called Gorillasgalore which contains an unofficial studbook- it has details of virtually all Gorillas past and present though there are some innaccuracies sometimes. You can track by Country/Zoo or using the individual's name. Didi, Gigi, and(I think) Yuka were all females that died at Duisburg. Kumba(male) was sent to Artis as at the time Duisburg had 2.1. and didn't need him- he later went on to Antwerp where he died earlier this year. Catou (male)was 'retired' to Valencia where he also died. There was also an earlier male 'Tarzan' that died at Duisburg too.
