Venezuelan blue-throated piping-guans hatched at Gondwanaland, Asian Fairy-bluebirds at the bird house. Little rock frogs produced first clutch. The last Paraguayan tamandua was shipped to Frankfurt Zoo. One young Maned wolf was shipped to Szeged in Hungary, Spotted hyena male KITANO to Boras in Sweden.
Eastern black rhino bull NDUGU was shipped to Hannover Zoo today to mate the two old females there. He will come back next spring to join the new enclosure with his two females NANDI and SARAFINE and their offspring.
Two Pygmy slow loris (did not survived) and the first Myanmar thamin were born. Blue-crowned hanging parrots arrived for the Bird house. Gorilla female VIRINGIKA will leave the zoo to Great Britain later this year.
mmmm... it might just be Bristol as their same-aged(2005) homebred female Namoki is being moved to Belfast very soon, so they will be a female down. But if Howletts/PL is sending one to Leipzig, it seems more likely she would go there?
According to a keepers statement, the old monkey house will become a new home for koalas after restructuring.
Even if it hasn't been confirmed officially that is very interesting news BjoernN. When I recently was asked about what I consider the top zoo for families with smaller children (= good selection of "profile" animals and exhibits, but still of an overall size that isn't too problematic for smaller children that tend to get tired fast), I ended up saying Schönbrunn in Vienna. Although the giant pandas and polar bears may still sway the pendulum towards that zoo, the addition of koalas to Leipzig would make the choice even harded, as they have some other distinct advantages compared to Schönbrunn: notably African Kiwara-savanna, larger sharks, macaws, 4 great apes and Gondwanaland. Admittedly, I don't personally care much about giant panda or koala because they typically tend to be quite inactive, but for normal people they're perhaps the ultimate "profile" species together with elephants, rhinos, great apes, giraffe, polar bear and tiger.
Easter black rhinoceros born to NDUGU (18) and SARAFINE (14) on saturday evening - the third offspring since 2011...
The entire group of Hamadryas baboons (20 animals) was shipped to Mysore Zoo/India. Three Black crakes and one Sunbittern hatched at Gondwanaland. Two further Myanmar thamin were born. The recently born Eastern Black rhinoceros is a male.
@Bib Fortuna The okapi calf is female... @Pertinax I will visit the zoo on saturday, I am going to ask if possible.
Unfortunately, the Black Rhino calf died today afternoon. Zoo Leipzig: Nashorn-Nachwuchs trotz intensiver Behandlung gestorben
