Three lowland anoas left the zoo, female BIANCA (*1999 at Planckendael Zoo) to a zoo in the Czech Republic, two further young males (* 2009 and 2012 in Leipzig) to still unknown destinations. Good to hear - hopefully a decent proportion of these survived. I seem to recall hearing that Leipzig has been having a bit of a dry spot with quoll breeding in the last 12 months or so, so this is good news.
The old monkey house will definitely become a new home for Queensland koalas and other Australian animals, opening is planned for 2016. Howler monkeys, Bearded emperor tamarins and Golden lion tamarin are going to move into the Tamarin islands, to be opened in March 2015.
Does Leipzig still have an Australian outdoor exhibit, with kangaroos, wallabies and birds? Will this be moved closer to the old monkey house to form a little Australian area?
They have an Australia enclosure with kangaroos and wallabies. A small Australian area is planned but I do not know how it will look like in the future. My dream: Numbats and Koalas at the Monkey house
