Magdeburg has recently annouced via facebook the birth of two female Siberian tiger cubs. There now out on exhibit with mother Colina.

Does anybody know the names of the adult pair of Black rhino?

Some good breeding-results during the first months of 2013 :
the black-cheeked lovebird ( Agapornis nigrigenis ) one of Africas most threatened mainland-parrot-species have hatched 10 chicks sofar. This is a species which needs much more attention by zoos !
    Humboldt penguins 8 chicks
    Pink pelican 1 chick
Dhole 2 young have been born

The cubs – two females and one male – made their public debut on July 15. More than 15,000 people voted on the zoo’s website to name the cubs! The females are named Aruna and Nela, while the male is named Otto III, after his two older male siblings.

Zoo Magdeburg partners with the Snow Leopard Trust to protect wild Snow Leopards in northern India’s Spiti Valley. Snow Leopards are Endangered in their native Asian mountain habitat. Fewer than 7,500 of these rare and elusive cats are estimated to live in the wild, where they face intense pressure from illegal hunting and habitat loss.

Madiba was returned to Magdeburg yesterday following his loan. Both Hanover females were covered during his stay so fingers crossed for success....

I was thoroughly, thoroughly impressed by Magdeburg on 05/04/2014 and as such can highly recommend it. As it has not been visited too often by Zoochatters a full blow by blow review will be posted upon my return home.

One big piece of news - although unlabelled, the collection now has Whitenosed Coati onshow!

Are the coati in the tapir enclosure?

but I am not surprised that Magdeburg now keeps this species, they are really doing a good job in bringing rare species into the zoo :)

    Striped hyena

Quick question as I go through my labelling, zootierliste States Magdeburg have pure East African striped hyena and no ssp. Status, is it one of each or is there a mistake and it's 2 of one or the other? (Unless of course they have more than 2)

Only one, the male, of the 2 is a pure subspecies, the other one of unknown origin. According to zootierliste it is a wild-caught animal from Tanzania...
