According to older and more experienced Zoochatters who *have* seen pure mainland subspecies of echidna to compare with those of no known subspecies, the odds are that they are Tachyglossus aculeatus aculeatus as they closely resemble the pure echidna at Planckendael which belongs to said taxon.

New species for Zoo Rostock, a proven breeding-pair Green aracaris was obtained.
Also for the single Polar fox female a new male could be obtained, he came from Wildpark Lüneburger Heide.

The zoos Polar Bears and Penguins are on the move in preparation for building work to begin on the new Polarium development. The 12,000 sqm enclosure will cost 9.75 million euros and replace the current 1950s "bear castle". It is expected to open in 2018

As for its residents - Female Polar Bear, Vilma has now moved to Aalborg on loan. She will likely return to Rostock once the new enclosure is built

Young male, Fiete (offspring of Vilma) will be going to Sosto permanently to form a new breeding pair with a female from Moscow. Vienna, the oldest female will also be moving shortly - destination not yet revealed.

The Penguin colony are being split between Zoo Berlin, Vogelpark Marlow and Zoo Hoyerswerda

Has anyone typed up a review of the Darwineum complex at Zoo Rostock? There are a few photos in the gallery but very little information available about the 2012 addition.

What you could do is go the the German Zoofreunde forum and make an account there, there is a wonderful report on the whole complex with many pictures in the topic "Vorstellung des „Darwineum“ im Zoo Rostock ". Even though it is all in German, with google translate it should work ;)

    Orangutan born :).
