Some BoP news from Walsrode...
They're currently waiting for a new male King Bird-of-Paradise (Cicinnurus regius) and a new male twelve-wired bird-of-paradise (Seleucidis melanoleuca), both expected to arrive at the vogelpark at the end of the year.
Both species laid eggs this year but not fertile (due to the fact that there's currently no adult males for both species... so no breeding).
Things will probably change next year with the arrival of the two males I mentionned earlier.
The old male Greater Bird-of-paradise is still on exhibit in the pheasantry, all the other species are kept backstage.
They have great projects for next year, especially putting on exhibit some very rare species such as giant coua (Coua gigas) and many more!
I'll write you a report after my visit there (scheduled in spring '08).

Walsrode have announced the successful hatching of 5 kagu in 2007. They were all hand reared.

They also reared 30 roseate spoonbills and 50 scarlet ibis.

They also had great success with cranes breeding this year (black-necked, white-necked, siberian, mandchurikan, brolga, sarus and probably monk too)

Single wattled casswary
Old 14-04-2009

I wonder wear walsrode got their single wattled cassowaries? I am trying desperately to find some, there are none in north america except for my female that I have aquired, I have raised double wattled cassowaries for years now. Its ashamed there arent more single wattles in captivity, I would love to help fix that if I could find some to import. Can anyone help? If so, please email me...casuarius81@yahoo.com. Thanks

It's one of the forum's in-jokes from a few years ago.

A former member created a hoax where he said he was the owner of a very impressive bird collection in Myanmar. Someone uncovered this hoax by noticing that the images this member was posting were all stolen from another source.

Myanmar is a country in South-east Asia, formerly known as Birma. There's one more facility in Europe that keeps the single-wattled Cassowary, which is the "Europaradise Park" in Montemor-o-Velho, Portugal. You might wanna ask them where they got theirs from...

Walsrode is down to just one bird left, btw...
