Late in 2007 Chester's hand reared Asiatic Lion cub was transfered to Besançon Zoo in France. I will plead ignorance. I have not previously heard of this collection, nor can I find a related website. Has anyone been there, or seen a leaflet etc..
It's actually a part of a big touristic complex that's really worth visiting.
It's called La Citadelle de Besançon.
There's an historical castle, musem, but also a zoo, a night house and an insectarium.
The collection here is amazing! So think about going there (by train from paris, it's fairly easy) next time!
That was my first and only visit to the Berlin Zoos - itching to return !
Ever intention of attending this year's Zoohistorica in Wroclaw; my first trip to Poland !
There are cheap flights from Liverpool to Basel. I wonder if a long weekend is feasible. Based in Basel whilst traveling out to Besançon and, in the opposite direction, Zürich. On our last trip to Basel we traveled to Mulhouse. Some interesting species in an attractive parkland setting; but we would not rush back.
