Giant otter birth
Old 09-08-2009

I have read that the giant otter house at Doue la Fontaine has been closed to the public due to the presence of otter cubs.
Can anyone confirm this.

Yes, I read this panel during my visit with Iziona. But, the 3 baby giant otter are born now. This is the first time this has happened in France. The female Yucuna, born in Cali and Diego, born in Dortmund, well take care for now.

Oh my english

The man himself

Alexpe, i hope you don't mind me lifting the picture from the excellent zoonaute site.
I can now take this chance to thank you and the contributers at zoonaute (a few of them post here), for the second best zoo chat site in the world

The otter birth is great news for the European breeding programme which now seems to be going from strength to strength.

please do not apologise for your English it is tres magnifique (better than my French)

It would be good to get some more news from French zoos, there are some outstanding collections in France i am sure we would like to keep up to date with, for me especially Beauval, CERZA and parcs des felins.

In the end, two cubs of the first litter died and one male remained. He was left at Doué to see his parents raise the next litter of cubs so he could learn how

And now he can, the next litter has been born! 5 pups, of which one has died sofar were born very recently
