Male chimpanzee Vincent (born approx 1995) has been transferred to a zoo in the Czech Republic to become the breeding male there. This leaves six males at the zoo of the original ten.

A zoo in the Czech Republic is in fact the Ostrava Zoo. The zoo recently set up a pure-bred verus West African chimp breeding group with the arrival of 3 females from Leipzig Zoo (in exchange for their hybrid female group of four.

    That is easy ...!

OUT: FF Maja (born 1986 Hannover), Hope (born 1990 Jerusalem), Zira (born 1997 Ostrava) and Bambari (born 2000 Ostrava) - all hybrids.

IN: FF Ulla (born 1977 Rijswijk-TNO), Annet (born 1999 Rijswijk-TNO) and Kara (born 2005 Leipzig to F Fraukje) - all verus.

And now M Vincent - verus too - has arrived to complete the new breeding group at Zoo Ostrava.

This really ought to go in a different thread (either Ostrava or nor fitting the new Chimpanzee thread).

Speaking of the chimps...19 year-old Jos unfortunately passed away under anaesthetic during his transfer to another zoo to become a breeding male. This means half of the original 10 remain; Conan, Jorg, Bastiaan, Wonder and Roy :(
Such a shame! I had seen him on my visit not even a week ago...

Jos was put under anaesthetic on the 11th April to be transferred that day. So I'm assuming it was some time that day that he died.

As lots have been saying and predicting (including myself), young gorilla males Sango (born 2004 to Yaoundé and Moseka) and Lomako (born 2004 to Yaoundé and Virunga) have transferred from La Vallee des Singes to Pairi Daiza to join Wazungu, Shomari and Dayo.

Are they not intending on making one group of bachelors?

The bonobo troop is now the second largest worldwide at 21 individuals following the arrival of female Lingoye from Planckendael in Belgium.

That is very impressive, considering they only became holders in 2009

Indeed! Although if the rumours are to be believed come this time next year it will be four animals short, since Lisala, Bondo, Luebo and now Lingoye were recommended to be moved to Ouwehands in the Netherlands. My guess is that, since Lingoye is the only bonobo that has not been recommended along with another individual from her group (the others recommended are Kutu and Visola in Frankfurt and Kali and Maddie in San Diego), she was moved to Romagne to be introduced to Lisala and her sons before all four are sent to Ouwehands next year.

As well as some new bonobos (likely also to be moved on in the next year or so, like Lingoye) this year Vallée des Singes will also receive female chimpanzees to breed with their five males. Wonder, one of the five, has been castrated due to his father being unknown and therefore his purity not being 100% definite. The other four males, Bastiaan, Jorg, Conan and Roy, will all become breeders.
The female chimps are due to arrive next week, and the three new bonobos should, if all goes ahead, arrive within the next month.
