According to the zoo's newsletter, two of the female elephants, WinThida and Jula, will move to Napoli later this year, after Surin's calf is born. With the young male Tonsak going off to Sweden, it seems to me the elephant house will be a bit empty.

    Hi folks

I will visit Copenhagen Zoo on Saturday, September the 12th, for the first time. If there are any zoochaters who like to join a passionate photographer and would like to give him some suggestions about good photo spots as well as good, moderate priced restaurants for dinner, then they are very welcome. Would be a great pleasure to meet some scandinavian zoonerds.

Will be at the gate at opening time. Just leave a message here or click my nickname for a personal note.

6 Eastern Grey Kangaroo and a pair of Wallaby (species not mentioned) have arrived from Trowunna in Australia for the new Tasmania development which is expected to be ready shortly

Good to read Australia let's out more and more animals in the past years...

If Trowunna keeps only tasmanian species, maybe the second species could be Tasmanian pademelon (Thylogale billardierii ) ? I don't belive copenhagen zoo has imported Benett Wallabies....

So, it appears Tasmania will open in about 2 weeks with kangaroos and devils, and wombats will be introduced to the section later this year. According to the long list I've seen (which involves a large part of the zoo), the next plans are new exhibits and/or updates for lion, lemur, penguin and sea lion. I guess one or more of those will be initiated next year.

Apparently the devils are in breeding mood again and –as typical of the species– it's a fairly violent affair. Let's hope for another success, furthering the chance of this species becoming fully established in zoos outside Australia.

Do you have any more information about these developments and where they will be? I think I heard that the lions will move to the Søndermarken area with the African savannah. It would certainly make sense and create more 'complete' experience in that part of the zoo.

They used to have them in the past (Goodfellows, if I remember correctly), but currently not.

I do have a bit of information, but second hand and therefore labelled with some uncertainty. If or when I get more solid info (e.g. location), I'll post it.

(Det är kanske bättre att skriva på engelska än danska)

According to a previous post, the next plans are new exhibits and/or updates for lion, lemur, penguin and sea lion.

Giant pandas were discussed a while ago - spring last year but little has been heard since. I did see an article somewhere that questioned where the funding would come from. The zoo said they would meet all the costs but a sponsor hadn't been found and that's the last I heard but there might be more recent developments. A lot will go on behind the scenes until the final arrangements are agreed on.

That post doesn't make any grammatical sense in neither Danish or Swedish - it looks a lot like he copy-pasted it into Google Translate and accidentally translated it back into Danish before posting it.

zoo cph89; of course I cannot decide anything for you, and I hope it doesn't sound too harsh, but you might want to practice/seek to improve your English a bit - it is usually very hard to understand (it looks like many of your posts done with Google Translate), and if your reading skills are at the same level, I guess it might also be hard for you to understand some of the posts on here. Of course, if you're dyslexic, that's entirely alright.

Back on-topic; the lion exhibit has been intended to be built in the Søndermarken area for a long time, and there is room for it, so it's just a matter of time/money/priority.
