Dresden Zoo - Lion cage
Old 23-11-2008

A very old cage for lions in Dresden Zoo, Germany. During my visit in the summer 2008 there was a single female lion in this cage. Hopefully it is just used as a quarantine cage, for no lion deserves to live here permanently. There is a newer exhibit for lions right next to this cage. It is part of the old Big Cat House.

Ouch. That cage looks as if it is at least 50 years old!

Its the old lion-cage, so the female lives here for her live. Thouh it wouldn't be a problem to get her in the new (but still crapy) exhibit, it was dicided to get a young breeding-pair of zoomix-lions...

Then why don't they send her away? It is not ethic at all to keep her in that cage...

Cause she´s to old. A narcotic would be to much for her, but to open the door in the new enclosure would not be

Tragic! That they decided to let her stay in this awful prison and get new lions for the new exhibit is unforgiveable.

Indeed it is. At least she gets a lot of enrichment from the keepers.

I would suggest to ask the zoo why the lioness is still in that cage, is has a resaon, I'm sure about that. Al this Half-knowledge of a lot of people is the reason for rumours...

As long as nobody has asked the zoo why the lioness still lives in this old cage, would it be better to be quiet...

Oficell answer: She is old and sick of cancer, so they won't be able to move her asleep, cause she won't wake up after that.
And if she would survive that, she wouldn't be friends with the other, new lions.

Thanks, animal!

Needless to say, I think they should have taken the risk of moving her, possibly giving her a dignified end to her life after being confined to this awful prison cell - BEFORE EVEN CONTEMPLATING GETTING NEW CATS FOR THE NEW ENCLOSURE.
