Giant elephant shrew

This animal was one of my favourites at the Frankfurt Zoo, it has lived in the Daylight department in the Grizmekhouse. I think, Frankfurt was the only zoo outside of africa, who has kept this species.
I took this picture from the Zooguidebook 1987. I have a few selfmade pictures, but they are very bad in quality. Advertisement

A new species has been described of the genus Rhynchocyon in February 2008.

@eagle. No, Philadelphia is keeping ( and breeding ) another species, black-and rufous elephant shrews. I will see them in June ( smile )
