Nice to see this photo; the only one I saw in real was Berlin Zoo's 'Sharky' in 1995. Do you remember if it was the only Elephant Seal they had or if there was more?

I visited Marineland in 2005 and Elephant Seals were still marked on a large map close to the entrance, although I'm sure their last one died in the late 1990s, at least before Sharky (he died in late 2000 I think) as he was the last one in Europe.

Once I heard rumours that Antibes would be bringing in Elephant Seals again, but where would they get them. Shame that it was just a rumour; they are stunning animals and with improved husbandry and exhibits, they should well manage in modern zoos even if they did not once.

      Hey Baldur,

as i remember, there was only one living in the enclosure, which seems to be inhabited by Steller sea lions today.
I remember Californian sea lions living with it, but i am not sure.:
      Plan de l'Espace Marineland
The bottlenose-dolphin stadium left of it was still the traditional orca pool.
The whole park was looking like ancient marineparks looked like.

An elephant seal in a pool near the entrance? When i visited Antibes, there were harbour seals in there, according to an old map, some of those tiny pools were used for rescued sea mammals.

I saw elephant seals in Berlin, Stuttgart and Antibes, but the most intense impressions are those of Charlie in Stuttgart.
I'd really like to see them again, though a pool should be far deeper than those they were kept in up to now.
