Brown Hare at the British Wildlife Centre 14/03/10

Lepus europaeus The centre has tow of the UK's three native lagomorphs (the Brown Hare and European Rabbit); only Mountain Hare is missing (the latter species is probably the commonest wild lagomorph in continental zoos, however). A superb small collection and host to this year's IZES UK Zoo Collectors' Fair.

Not hard, being as other than those three taxa no other lagomorphs are held ;)

Do you know if they breed the Brown Hare?
    • Maguari
I don't I'm afraid - from memory I think we only saw this one so it could be they only have a singleton.

Norfolk Wildlife Park bred Brown Hares (and Arctic) in the 1970s/80s. Looking at their species list, it seems an interesting collection, but a much smaller one than Great Witchingham in its heyday. The near total absence of birds says something about today's zeitgeist I suspect.
