Nice photo, Tim. I have a feeling this female('Betty'/Bettina?) has in the past been sent to West Berlin for mating, or she used to be, so this calf may not be sired by the E.Berlin male.

      Thank you, Pertinax.

Interestingly, according to the studbook, another female, “Jhansi” (Betty’s mother) has been moved backwards and forwards between (West) Berlin Zoo and (East) Berlin Tierpark a number of times.

However, the studbook shows that “Betty” has remained at Berlin Tierpark since she was born there on 21st January 1995.

Of course, these studbooks are never completely up to date and “Betty” could well have been sent to West Berlin after the studbook was published.

"Betty" has never been moved to the Berlin Zoo, her mother "Jhansi" did, because she does not get along with bull "Belur" at the Tierpark. "Betty" was sired at San Diego Wildlife Park by her grandfather.

Thank you for explaining why “Jhansi” was often moved between the two Berlin animal collections; very interesting.

Thanks, too, for confirming that “Betty” had never been at Berlin Zoo.
