Yesterday a Babary Macaque decided to attend the Gorilla feeding presentation: Aap tussen de bezoekers op de tribune - DAG

The Macaque enjoyed the presentation and went back to it's own enclosure afterwards.

Zoo officials state that the Macaques do sometimes leave their enclosure, but are not able to escape from the zoo.

    Strange pic...

And nobody looks at a monkey? All the people there find it normal? Ok than...
It is possible, but i doubt about it.

Actually Apenheul itself has sent the pictures together with the press release, so I am quite sure this is a real picture. I guess that the monkey was already sitting there for some time so the people sort of got used to it.

It is not strange in the netherlands, it this time of the season, that a zoo comes with a complete made-up story to the press. Or news that is not news. But like i said, it is possible. And it could also a fake photo... Both sides of this case can...

For what it's worth, I think that macaque has been photoshopped into the picture. I'm no expert on this, but the edges of the monkey look very slightly blurred and the sunlight on the monkey looks too bright when compared to the people behind it.

After some time I visited the Apenheul again last week so I could check the situation myself. The barbary macaques live in a walk-through area and at one entrance there is only a sliding door once they brave the rosters (and one does, according to the keeper).

That entrance is next to the Gorilla feeding presentation area. I guess enough pictures were taken, but that no-one who is active in zoo-forums was present. The feeding presentation takes about 20 minutes, and you don't need to expect the public going frantic for the whole period whilst they know the monkey is "harmless".

What a great picture, well done to the zoo. Real or fake, Apenheul can do very little wqrong in my opinion. Let them get some fee press.

You can't expect that ordinary people find it normal to sit next to a monkey. If that happen? I am pretty sure (and i have seen it in other situations) that the peoply next to him would go 'frantic' like you named the reaction. ;)

Not everyone comes so often in a zoo like us. That the monkey does this? And was between the audience next to the Gorilla's? Sure, it is possible. But the pic itself i doubt, perhaps there was no picture made, by noboy. And that they photoshopped it, to have "free attention" in the press, they need it now. (they lossed some percentage in there visitors)

Please stop bringing up very old threads, especially if you're going to post pointless things like that -it's getting rather annoying!
