The really nice thing about the hatchings was that the female originated from Amsterdam zoo and had only been there a shortwhile prior to breeding / nesting behaviour and the eventual chicks from appearing.

I wonder how certain the zoo can be, that this was one and the same crocodile since 1930s?

Among many things, this may be a longevity record of crocodilians, of zoological interest, a potential candidate to Guinness book of records and a PR for zoo.

Looking at the new map, I see that Amazonia takes up a large part of South America. What animal species did the zoo have to export to have space for the new building? Vicuña and Rhea? Anything else? Thanks!

Amazonica does indeed take up quite a lot of space but nothing had to go to make space for it. The vicuñas & Darwin rheas are still at the same place, their enclosure is just a bit smaller then before.

I suspect this is to accomodate for the planned inclusion of Amazonian primates outdoors plus a few other South American tropical species.

I guess one of the species will be the large group of cotton tops!

Geladas will be inhabiting the old lion enclosure after the new lion enclosure has been completed.
