Apparantly the Dolfinarium Harderwijk hasn't got a thread of it's own? A shame really, it's a very decent park for it's inhabitants.

Reason for opening this thread is that the following animals are expected to have a youngster somewhere in 2009
    - 3 bottlenose dolphins, as far as i know natural breeding
    - 2 steller sealions
    - 1 harbour porpoise
    - 1 walrus

Specially looking forward to the baby walrus, good news :)

Harbor porpoise born! This is the second time ever that such animal is born in captivity (first one was born in Denmark). The little one is named Kwin. Gender is still unknown.

Mother is Amber, father might be Jordi.

Congratulation to Harderwijk ! And I cross the fingers for the upcoming walrus birth, for which month is the birth expected ?

Another question. Do Harderwijk has published a guidebook after 2005 with the diving walrus on the cover ?

Great News. Is it the same female, which gave birth to the other walrus youngsters ? Or do they have bred with more than one female ? :)

It was premature, perhaps that's why.

3 female dolphins that came from Neurenberg Zoo (Germany) last year are pregnant and expecting their calves somewhere during 2010. The names of the mothers are Anke, Naomi and Nynke.

They haven't said whether it was AI or natural, but i expect natural breeding...

    - Another walrus pregnancy failed. The same mother that had a succesfull birth six years ago and had a premature birth in 2009 (of which the calf died within weeks) now had a dead calf. Again this youngster was born about 2 months before the expected birthdate...

    - Two Steller Sealions have been moved to the "Alaskan Sea Life Center" (actually somewhere in Alaska btw).

    - Orca Morgan is back on show for two hours a day. Theres still a hot debate going wether she'll stay in captivity (which is what the dolfinarium wants, not at Harderwijk though!) or wether she goes back to any sort of wild environment...

I noticed from a recent browse of www.Zootierliste.de that a single White Beaked Dolphin (Lagenorhynchus albirostris) is at the Dolfinarium. Does anyone have anymore news about this? Or better yet a photo!?

There is indeed a White beaked Dolphin in the rehabilitation centre. Pictures can be seen here 2011 - 16 juni . The photo-album at dolfinariumweb is from the 16th of June so very recent.
As far as I know the dolphin we be released again when declared healthy.

Igor, the 30-years old walrus, has been put down because of problems with his shoulder joint.

The Walrus-group at Harderwijk now stands at 1.4. The male has been born at Harderwijk but is not related with one of the females so there still is a possibility for further unrelated breeding !

This male is directly related to his mother and to a daughter of Igor (halfsister). He can breed with one female (the mother of his halfsister). A fourth female is not reproducing as far as known to me.
