Indian rhino birth
Old 15-07-2008

Pffft. At last some more news to report.

Cow Namaste at Blijdorp Zoo has given birth to a bull calf "Bertus" on July 14, 2008. Mother and calf are doing well and has been seen nursing ...!

The current rhino indoor quarters have just been enlarged in time for the impending birth. It is now possible to see the calf indoors! Previously, mother and calf were held off-exhibit for months on end as the indoor area with deep pool was considered unsafe for the calves.

You don't often get the opportunety to see such a young rhino so i went to blijdorp this morning so see him. Mom and son are doing fine in the enclosure and don't seem to mind the visitors very much.

What? Where did you get that story?

Mother and calf were in the non visible part of there exhibit because the calf dared not on the stairs to go to the visible part.
This has nothing to do with the water.

Nice to mention is that this calf was named after the eldest (almost retired) Zookeeper for the Rhino's in Blijdorp...
