Good ibis-year sofar : 10 Scarlet ibisses have hatched and also the Sacred ibisses have already several chicks. The American white ibisses are spending a lot of time on the nest but sofar no chicks.

Dramatic scenes at Mondo Verde. For about a month a small all-male group ( father and 2 sons ) White-handed gibbons were housed on an island in the zoo. Today on of the sons fell into the water and drowned . Mondo Verde has two capuchinbirds new in the collection, according to ZTL and some other sources. The animals are behind the scenes.
Some rather shocking news from Mondo Verde, posted on their Facebook page and reported by media yesterday. On Sunday October 13th some unknown subjects cut large holes into both fences surrounding the lion exhibit. The lions were in their indoor enclosures for the night and the damage was discovered during morning checks before they went outside, so luckily at no point was there any danger of an actual escape. It is unclear whether the damage was vandalism or sabotage. The police was alerted and they have made a report about the incident but so far the perpetrators haven't been caught. This is one of the worst and most worrisome incidents I've heard of for a while. And whether it was "just" criminal damage/vandalism or some kind of animal rights crap, the idiots who did this almost certainly entered the park illegally as well, so I would say there is definitely reason for concern for Mondo Verde as well as for other zoos. Better to be vigilant in the near future I would say, there are some dangerous nutjobs running loose. I hope they get caught, but I realize the chances of that are pretty low.
