The 6 males are all from Howlett´s in the UK and are : Bitono Jah Popa Baloo Imbizo and Bitanu ( also known as Barney )
These are all males that have come out of existing groups rather than having lived together previously as a male group. Bitono, Jah and Popa are all from one group (was Kijo's); Baloo and Imbizo are from another (Kouillou's), and Bitanu from a third (original old females/retirement) . Bitono is already a young silverback. I guess these younger males replace the five older silverbacks which were originally planned/advertised to be coming here, as one has since died and the others can only be kept together as a threesome now, so presumably these younger ones were sent instead to make a more suitable display.
On March 6, polar bear Siku moved to Zoo La Fleche (France) because of the breeding program. He will accompany the 22-year-old female polar bear Katinka, who came from Blijdorp Zoo Rotterdam. Siku is the young from mother Freedom and father Victor. On that same day, two white lion cubs were born at the zoo as well, one male and one female.
In the nigth from May 27 to May 28 twin Reindeer were born at Ouwehands Dierenpark, a very rare event !
The Bear Forest is closed from november until the spring of 2014, because after 20 years it was time for a renovation of the forest and the visitor walkways

in the past few weeks, and upcomming months a number of animals will move or arrive in Ouwehands Zoo. The llama's have moved in to the old reindeer exhibit they will be joind by Rheas and Capybara's(new species), the reindeer have been moved to the fallowdeer exhibit, the Red Pandas will share their exhibit with Muntjacs(new species). The Yaks will be moved to the now empty llama exhibit, the ravens are now together wit the sea-eagles, the empty raven aviary wil house Southern Ground Hornbills(new species). The Sarus Cranes wil move to a new exhibit, and also a new species for the Zoo wil be some Woolly-coated pigs they wil be housed near the renamed expedtion bearforrest
Hello all you regular visitors to Ouwehands Zoo. Do any of you know when Victor (the polar bear ) is leaving to join us English people over here at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Would be great to know as I cant get any definite answer from the park rangers over here. Cheers,Rob.
