Yep, together with a new aviary for steller eagles, a fake boabab tree combined with an exhibit for spotted hyenas and the restore of the historical entrance.
After that an internal removal of animals will take place. For example, the giraffe enclosure will be available again for another species. So is the formal spotted hyena exhibit, the formal aviary for the eagles.
Plus Rotterdam zoo desires a Congo themed site with the gorillas as centre. They already have a some species from the Central Africa region (red river hog [Potamochoerus porcus], pygmy hippopotamus [Hexaprotodon liberiensis], bongo [Tragelaphus eurycerus], okapi [Okapia johnstoni] white nosed monkey [Cercopithecus nictitans] and of course gorillas), but it will almost be undoable to put them all together in one region.

And, there are plans to build a new aviary with marabou storks and vultures on the edge of the Savannah area.

Yep, for this last there was a competion with the "friends of Blijdorp", it was "or" the Marabou storks and vultures in a walkthrough exhibit, of a exhibit for the Meerkats...

Both are going to come, but the Meerkats doesn"t have the support of the friends (so no extra money), sow that will be for later...

1. I believe they now plan to move the giraffes in april.
2. That male is still there. Not sure what the plan was with his. I thought blijdorp would stop with this species
3. No not yet. They will probably be the last ones to be added to the new enclosure, so that will still take a while for them to arrive.

1) Blijdorp speaks of end April 2009
2) Just one male left, no further plans announced there
3) They would come after the "moving" of the girafs...

at the moment they are mostly working on the inside of the giraffehouse. the outside looks about finished;

It's often refered to as the onion, and sometimes as the "haystack".

Some shots from last saturday;

Some new strips on the doors,

Work of the last couple of weeks was mainly lighting and stuff like that. No big changes in the appearance of the building or its surroundings.

Some pitures (made today) of buildingactivity in blijdorp;

(the giraffehouse still looks about the same)
Next to the giraffehouse a Baobab will be build. The visitors will go through it at the first floor. Ground floor will be the indoor enclosure for the spotted hyenas. The top of the baobab will be sort of a look out point/tower, where you can get an overview of afrika.
The start for the baobab has been made;

In the arctica part of the zoo 3 aviaries are beinig build (for now those are 3 groups of wooden poles). Example;

(the aviaries are meant to house Stellers sea eagles, snowyowls and racoons).

The enclosure for polarfoxes is nearly finished;

work on the Baobab;

This year the "old entrance" will be renovated. The pillars with animalfigures, the gates in between, the ticket-booths, etc.

The large gates have already been taken away. There is a temporary thin wire mesh now. For a distance you hardly see it and it looks as if erverybody can just walk in and out of the zoo

When you enter here penguins (jackass) would be the first thing you'd encounter. However that enclosure has been build later and is not "part of the monument", so they will leave pretty soon. They will go to Artis/Amsterdam. (in time they will return when an enclosure has been build in the africa-section). The small wooden building behind the penguins used to be a little shop called "de winkel van sinkel". That will be reinstalled (i believe a place where you can get coffee and stuff).

@Trebaruna:
In the beginning of the March I would like to visit Blijdorp, can I normally use the old entrance or must I go into only by the Oceanium ? Thank you
