General question: I wonder how the financial crisis in greece has in impact to the zoos and aquarias in that country. Are some institutions on the brink of closure?

As you can see in the " Trikala zoo " thread t ,here are some problems in greek zoos . Although most of the zoos here in Greece aren't owned by the govermnent so I think that's why zoos like Attica park don't seem to have major problems .

They'll be having the same problem accessing cash as anybody else in the country though. There's simply no money available for them to buy feed, pay staff etc. It's a grim situation.

Yeah I know exactly the situation as I live in Greece but what I am trying to say is that the owner of Attica park , for instance , is from a foreign country and thus he might have money in foreign banks ... Of course that's only a hypothesis ...

As far as I'm aware there's no way to get money from overseas into the country other than by bringing it in as cash. Are credit cards still being accepted anywhere or have they effectively shut down as well? Hope you're doing okay.

Thanks for the interest . We are coping for the moment ...Ummm ,I am not an adult so I am not informed about wether you can bring money for abroad or not but no one accepts credit cards due to the fact that people can't take big ammounts of money from the bank. But anyway , I think that we have lost the point which is Attica Park ...

    just bumping this interesting question.

I found a blog with lots of photos and the puma is no longer white. The last update was in 2012 when it was written:
"Now I am a real mature Puma, I have lost my spots, and I became grey brown like my parents. I still do not understand how I was born nearly white, specially when I look at my parents. I thought that maybe my mother had made a “faux pas”, but it is impossible because she never leaves my father."

Attica zoological park have published their new map showing Persian leopards, Sumatran tigers and elephants for 2016. The cats will be housed in the combined former jaguar/puma/white tiger area. Unfortunately the ocelots and caracal seem to have left the collection. It seems that they aim at larger cat species...

Two asian elephants have arrived at the park!

Here is an article from park's news translated in English:

"From Saturday 19 of December visitors of Attica Park will have the opportunity to admire the new BIG members of the Park, Mio and Leso, two 10 years old asian elephants, 3 tonnes each, in a 8000sq m plot, one of the biggest in Europe, with the most modern standards for the care and prosperity of the elephants.

Mio and Leso was born at Emmen Zoo, Netherlands, and came to their new home from Plock Zoo of Poland with a special big-animals truck. Mio and Leso adjusted quickly to their new habitat and already enjoy Attica's sun playing in their pool."

Three prairie dogs, one black-necked stilt and surprisingly a kea  has come today through the airport for the park. The "dog" and the stilt are species that already live in the park but the kea is a whole new and interesting addition to the bird collection. If anyone has any idea about the origin of the parrot please share it, as the park has not announced the arrival and I'd like to learn more about the occurrence and rarity of this species in european zoos
    Thanks!

The species is also kept in very small numbers in privat collections.
