So I finally booked the tickets for the Uganda - Kilimanjaro return flights. Going via Nairobi on Kenya Air. Luckily both legs are with Kenya Air on both journeys, so less chance of luggage getting lost. There are also flights later in the day so if it does get lost, it's still going to get to me that day. The downside is the flight out of Entebbe departs at 05:05am, so have to be at the airport at least an hour before (meaning I probably will get up at 2:00am). Bugger. Thankfully all other flights are at a decent hour. Hix
I hate that. I always try to get the cheapest flights I can, so mine are almost always at ungodly hours.
Admittedly it is cheaper, but that's not the reason I have to fly at that time. That's the only flight that has Business Class on it. And the only reason I'm flying Business is because of all the extra gear I need for Kili. The economy baggage weight limit was a little on the low side. Hix
I've just learnt that three other people have joined me on my Kilimanjaro climb. <Hix looks questioningly at Orangeperson> Hix
I leave Monday week. As for camera gear I will have a new Canon 70D and my L-series 70-300mm lens, a 100mm macro and 18-35mm; a Canon IXUS; and GoPro Hero3. Hix
Good selection and not too much weight. 70D and 70-300L is an excellent combo. I have both, although I still mainly use the 70-300L on my old 7D and keep the 70D for whatever other lens I want to carry.
It's not Orangeperson & Co. Out of the entire world, the people who joined my group are a trio of Kiwis. Hix
My flight leaves in about 12 hours, so this should be my last post until I arrive there. And when I am there I'll be posting if I can get a wifi signal, which might be few and far between. And just to cap it off, last night (in the wee small hours of the morning Australia-time) I received an email from Kenya-ait telling me they've cancelled one of my flights and rebooked me on the same flight the next day. Unfortunately, that means I will then miss my international connection to Australia so I've just sent them off an email making another suggestion, but it's night there and they won't get it for at least another six hours. Very frustrating!!! Hix
Well, I'm due to leave for the airport in ten minutes and an hour ago my Microsoft Surface Pro decided it was going to throw a tantrum. Won't open up, just spins it's wheels and asays "Please Wait". Bugger it. Taking the laptop instead. Hix
I think I'd be very good after my recent training climbing up to monasteries at Meteora (as seen in For Your Eyes Only). Hope you have a fantastic time.
Your trips sounds great. I have done birding and safari trips to South Africa, Kenya and Ethiopia but always wanted to do Tanzania. I am so jealous!
