The 66-page document posted below states (on page 16) that "lemur exhibits should be a minimum of 4.5 metres in width, 6.5 metres in length with a minimum height of 3.5 metres". I wonder if the AZA regulations in North America are similar to the ones in Australia? Whatever the case, the mongoose lemur enclosure in this photo is probably adequate in terms of husbandry but surely the zoo can substitute a smaller, less-active species in the exhibit? Whether this "cave" meets the basic, minimum requirements is negligible in my view as it is shockingly woeful to have such an enclosure in the year 2012 in a modern, accredited zoo. Some might read this diatribe and think that I'm being harsh, but I'm serious when I declare that I'm not sure that I'm being harsh enough! It is a shame as this improving zoo seems to have a number of decent exhibits, particularly the fairly new addition of the African zone.

This zoo is trying to build up and if they get outdoor exhibits for their primates plus space for more species this zoo could be pretty good.

Unfortunately I believe these lemur exhibits are fairly new, because of that I wouldn't expect an upgrade any time soon.
