Lemur twins a rare arrival - New Zealand, world, sport, business & entertainment news on Stuff.co.nz
Quote:
Willowbank Wildlife Reserve is celebrating the arrival of twin lemurs.
The twins, which arrived on Saturday morning, are the first to have been born in Christchurch.
Park manager Jeremy McGuire said it was "reasonably rare" for lemurs to give birth to twins.
"Everyone is excited. She seems to be a really good mum, and the twins seem pretty content as well."
They will be fully grown in about two months, but will suckle until five-months of age.
the bit about "The twins.... are the first to have been born in Christchurch" refers to the fact they are twins, rather than implying they are the first ring-tailed lemurs born in Christchurch, because of course Orana has bred them too

Do you know anything about the ancestry of these lemurs?

I have put a photo of the mother and babies here lemur twins - ZooChat Gallery

the park has nine adult ring-tails, separated into two groups of four and five. The person I spoke to thinks that they all came from Hamilton Zoo but wasn't 100% sure. These are the first baby ring-tails born at Willowbank, but another one of the females looks VERY pregnant at the moment.
