Bear cuscus male arrived two weeks ago. He is kept behind the scenes now but shortly should join female at Monkey House.
What's up next for zoo wroclaw ? They will get heavy competition from Orientarium at Zoo Lodz. Plus they are on a roll new bear, tiger, wolf, european animals enclosures an of course Afrykaneum.
Heavy competition is not exactly the right word I guess. Zoo's whichare spread aprat as much are not really competing directly... I guess?
I don't think so. It was renovated in 2007. In worst state is Birdhouse which should be renovated this year.
In plans for this year are: snow leopard and clouded leopard exhibits (at former polar bears enclosure and two neighboring enclosures). Than renovation of birdhouse which will be transfered into free-flight hall. In plans is also renovation of crocodile house and reconstruction it into pygmy hippo house.Next is transformation of old lion house into educational building with some exhibits probably for invasive species. And still new species for Afrykarium, mainly fishes and birds.
It appears the elderly chimp female Pearl / Perla has died in late December 2015 in Wroclaw Zoo. Link: Zoo Wroc?aw
1 Rüppell's Robin-chat (Cossypha semirufa) hatched in February. (*This species doesn't seem to be mentioned on Zootierliste)
Bears I wonder whether anyone can tell me what has happened to the fourth female European brown bear. According to Zootierliste (a couple of years out of date) there are supposed to be four. The more confusing thing is that the four bears listed on Zootierliste presumably do not include Przemisia, the bear who suffers from epilepsy. If Przemisia was acquired after the latest inventory on Zootierliste there should in fact be five bears. I was at the zoo a few weeks ago, and there seemed to be only three bears. In the big enclosure at the top of the zoo there were two. I can be absolutely certain that there were only two because I saw the keeper putting them in their indoor enclosure, and definitely only two bears went into the indoor enclosure. Then there's Przemisia, and it was lovely to see her awake this time! There used to be another bear in the small enclosure between the wolves on the left and the Asiatic black bears on the right. That bear was nowhere to be seen a few weeks ago, and the enclosure is hardly big enough that a bear could be hiding anywhere. I really liked the bear who used to be in that enclosure. When she heard a tram on the main road the other side of her enclosure she stood up on her hind paws trying to see where the noise was coming from.
There were tries to connect this female with other two in big enclosure but it was unsuccessful. Bears were too much aggressive each other so this female should be back at her old enclosure.
