    The shortlist is in!
You have 1 month to vote in this poll of zoochat's best pre-2000's *chosen by YOU!* :p . I will post all five photos with a piece of relevant information(I hope).

I have said that the photos should be nostalgic and have a story, but feel free to vote because of any reason you like. It would be nice, also, if you could put the reason why you're voting for a particular photo too!

    Photo 1:

Nominated by TeaLovingDave who says "The following image taken by bongorob of a captive Hainan Black-crested Gibbon seems appropriate, considering this taxon is potentially only a few short years from extinction - in which case it will be the first known ape species to go extinct since Homo floresiensis some 12,000 years ago."

    Photo 2:

Nominated by Gentle lemur who says "My nomination is this image of 'Siam' the very large bull Indian elephant at Vincennes. I saw him a couple of times in the '70s and he was one of the most impressive animals that I have ever seen. I wish I had managed to get a photo as good as this one." Taken by Steve Romo and posted by Middle Man

    Photo 3:

Nominated by LaughingDove who said "I shall nominate this picture of a whyte's barbet by vogelcommando.
Great picture of a fantastic subject!" Taken by vogelcommando.

    Photo 4:

Nominated by Brum who said his "My nomination is for the following image of Cuddles the killer whale by Gentle Lemur, mainly because I can't quite believe the pool held a whale at one point!" Taken by Gentle Lemur.

    And Finally... Photo 5:

Nominated by Macaw16 of Gemsbok from 1987 taken at Toronto Zoo by Hix.

Thanks for all the nominations and good luck nominees, GET VOTING NOW! Poll closes 29/07/15

I voted for Cuddles at Dudley, since I nominated it and it's my favourite out of the five! It also means something to me personally as it's something I never witnessed but have always been told about by my family!

All criteriors are met with this nomination! :p

I voted for Siam the elephant for having the biggest tusks on an Asian that I have ever seen.

I've voted for number 1 as it is a photo taken in my own local zoo, and it highlights the possible extinction of this species. It's also poignant actually, because in my short life on this world I have seen the massive decrease in primate species at Twycross. It will be interesting to see which primate species remain at Twycross in the next 30 years time...

Great to see how close the poll is already. Everything still to play for! Don't forget if you nominated a photo or took it yourself you can still vote in the poll!

Keep on voting! The shortlist photos are fantastic, and I think this has been so far a good way of uprooting and exposing some great vintage photos!

    I am relieved.
I would have been embarrassed if my old photo of 'Cuddles' the killer whale had won, it is probably the second worst photo I have ever posted on ZooChat (my other picture of 'Cuddles' is the worst because it is even less sharp )
As I nominated the photo of 'Siam' I am sure it is a better and moreover a more important photo. I am glad that other agreed :)
