Any ZooChatters Written A Book?
Old 21-07-2011

Just thought it'd be intereting to find out if any of the members of this website have written a book. With the diverse backgrounds found on here, surely some ZooChatters have.

There are at least a couple. One American ZooChatter is an established author who writes mysteries (usually set in zoos I think) and a British ZooChatter mentioned on one thread that he had written a guide to UK zoos.

I am currently in the midst of a 2 or 3 year self assignment on Zoos Of The Southwest which I hope to self-publish as a book (target date is 2013).

I'll ignore my natural modesty and use this opportunity to publicize my second co-authored book:
The Eponym Dictionary of Reptiles, published by the Johns Hopkins University Press, will be out in September. It gives brief biographical details of those persons who have had extant reptiles named after them (either in the common or scientific name of a species).
Order your copy now!

Oh, how you tempt me!

For those wondering, MikeG's first co-authored book was the similarly-themed Eponym Dictionary of Mammals, which is absolutely superb.

Designaka, tim_b and ANyhuis have all also written/co-written zoo books in the past.

While working at the Cincinnati Zoo, I wrote a volume on plant conservation for their series of conservation titles aimed at school children, Green Planet Rescue:Saving The World's Endangered Plants

While they haven't been finished yet, I'm currently writing a novel about a tyrannosaur from birth to death, and maybe one day I'll write a zoo guide.

@Tim B: I attempted to send you a private message and I wasn't able to as apparently your ZooChat mailbox is full. Can you please delete some ingoing and outgoing messages so that you are able to receive correspondence? Here is the first paragraph of that private message, which I will send in its entirety when you are able to receive it:

I just put in an order through the IZES website for 3 books: Anthony Sheridan's "What Zoos Can Do", your own guide to British Zoos & Aquariums and the Bristol Zoo Gardens book. As excited as I am to receive the 3 books (costing $100 Canadian!) I was wondering about the summer 2009 issue of IZES magazine. I understand that the issue in question contains 16 reviews of American zoos and I'd love to have a copy of it. Is there a way that I can order it? Could it be included in my order that I placed today?

I've authored a few scientific papers on ecotoxicological subjects and coauthored a chapter in a book - Ecotoxicological testing of marine and freshwater ecosystems.

Some people may know from the chatroom that I'm currently plotting/writing a fantasy series. I have the story plotted all out, but I have a habbit of starting the actual writing again when I'm so far in . Luckily I get a bit further in every time, so hopefully you'll all see it at some point

Yes I have just finished a 10,000 word book on elephants: it will be the first of a series called 'The Young Zoologist', aimed at intelligent youngsters thinking of becoming a zoologist as a career. It is more of a textbook than picture book. It will be published on Amazon Kindle later this month, with other titles to follow (and in fact I will be needing some co-authors for some of the animals to be included - anyone interested ?).
