Garboavele Zoo (commonly used Galați zoo) is located outside the village of Vanaturi, about 17 km north of Galați, in Tuluceşti municipality. And then the shock: was the trip for nothing? Close the gate, construction vehicles everywhere…. Well park and see first. An attentive security employee took notice and waved. So through the company entrance to him and then guided by him to the checkout. The zoo is currently renovating the driveway and parking lots, hence this small circumstance. But better that way than not at all. Entry costs 6 lei. Then the noise from the sky doesn't bother me either.

The zoo was established in 1960 (7.7 ha) and is located in Gârboavele Forest in Tulucești. In 1997 the direction of the zoo was re-planned again, and advice was sought from EAZA, among others. This zoo was also renovated several times in the 2010s because it did not meet the standards of modern animal breeding: 1999 - 2010 enclosures for hoofed animals, wolves and the area for big cats were renovated. The last part of the conversion (including infrastructure and enlargement of the area to 14 hectares) followed in 2012 - 2013, during which time the zoo was closed to the public.

And regarding the system sizes here in the zoo:
    Tiger: approx. 0.44 ha
Lion: upper area approx. 0.27 ha, lower area approx. 0.17 ha

It's actually a monkey house. The zoo built a monkey house in 2015 for 500,000 euros, which has not been used for monkeys since. Permission was denied because no signage demarcation zones were erected and the monkeys could escape or injure visitors.
The complex consists of a central pavilion with a ground floor and first floor, a visitor area and four outdoor areas. A total area of 800 square meters, which should house 20 monkeys.
For the modifications - demarcation areas between keepers and animals, separation areas for separating animals, better security so that the animals cannot escape, water inlets in each area and new boundaries. In addition, the bars on the windows will need to be replaced as currently bars are no longer recommended and they require special ropes, ramps, new feeding and resting areas. The costs are again estimated at 100,000 euros, which the zoo is currently unable to raise. One hoped for the summer season 2018 and 2019, apparently that was not enough. When the old administration modernized the zoo, the funding was only for the expansion of the premises, not for the design part.
The monkeys that are supposed to come to the zoo (since the whole thing started) are said to come from a zoo in the Netherlands, which is supposed to transport them to Romania free of charge

2 1/4 hours passed for this tour and some fun with the tigress.

    Photos from the zoo.
