    Wintering grounds of redbreasted goose are shifting westwards. Hungary gets quite a bit now. And they come also to Czechia/Moravia each winter, in low number still, but they used to be a real rarity.

    Also in the Netherlands almost every year Red-breasted goose are seen but in this case it is well possible that at least a part of these are escapes from waterfowl-collections.

    Very interesting. One of my favourite waterfowl species. The oldest known Ancient Egyptian painting, 'the geese at Meidum' shows a pair of these geese, suggesting that their winter range used to be far more extensive.
