Hello! Im working on a 'book chapter' for university at the moment where I will be discussing enclosure design for the entirety of Ursidae, and I am currently looking into the enclosure design at Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo. I was wondering if anyone knew of any scientific papers where it is discussed and if anyone also knows of any scientific papers covering the use of bear pits that used to be so common (and still are in some places). I havent been able to find any myself but was hoping that maybe some bright spark here may know of a good resource somewhere. Cheers
Jon coe Design might have stuff, also Zoolex is a great resource. In fact I think the woodland park zoo bear exhibit is on the Zoolex site. What book is this for?
I only have it on paper but I can explain it here for you, it is for a module called 'Behaviour and Management of Zoo Animals' and the work is in two parts. The overall main aim is to be writing a book about the management of a group of animals, with the aim of educating undergraduates. The first part is to write a referenced book chapter outline, you do this part in a group, all groups in the class were allowed to choose a family from a list. The second part is to write a chapter of the book individually, which has been decided with the rest of your group. Hope that helps!
