Hi. I'm new here and I would like to know what kind of animals have you seen on exhibit with gorillas and if there are any pics you could share. Thanks for any help you can give me!

At Barcelona zoo there's a mixed exhibit with De Brazza's monkeys (Cercopithecus neglectus).

I believe London had them mixed with colobus monkeys but I don't think it worked particularly well.

At Edinburgh at one time the gorillas were mixed with a pair of Diana monkeys and Kijo's group at Howletts was mixed with a pair of samango (aka Syke's monkey). I don't think either combination was really successful in the long term.

At Bristol they are mixed with ducks, not always to the benefit of the ducks ;)

Artis Zoo in Amsterdam also mixes their gorillas with Syke's Monkeys, and (bizarrely) meerkats.

Thank you for the help. Now I'm also curious as to what would be compatible with the orangtuan. Thanks again!

The Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha keeps Diana monkeys and mantled guerezas with their gorillas indoor. They also keep agile gibbons indoors with their bornean orangutans, and siamangs outdoors with them

I've heard rumors of mixed gorilla exhibits gone bad when the gorillas ended up eliminating their exhibit-mates. Where has this happened?

Melbourne Zoo did have three De Brazzas monkeys mixed in with their gorilla family for a short time...only two left the exhibit.

there have been several instances where monkeys have been killed by gorillas. Pertinax will know the details because I can't remember the specifics. Personally I think mixed gorilla exhibits are one of those mixes done purely for the public without regard for the animals concerned (as is all too common in zoos unfortunately). Its a nice idea in theory because it gives the monkeys much more room than they might otherwise have, and theoretically they are up in the "canopy" away from the terrestrial gorillas, but in practice that's not always the case.

I'm pretty sure there was somewhere that mixed duikers with gorillas wasn't there? And that's an even dumber idea in my opinion!

I think Valencia used to have sitatunga with gorillas (and other monkeys), but no longer.

These mixings don't often work well long term. Initially they often work as the different species avoid/respect each other's space but sooner or later the close proximity and familiarity results in un-natural behaviours or bad habits developing- playing/bullying/aggression/escaping.

That's why the term 'used to keep them together' is quite common in this respect.

Gibbons are kept with orangutans, I've seen them at Chester and in pictures of Prague.
