ISIS receives taxpayer dollars
Old 19-04-2012

Given that ISIS has consistently received funding from the public taxpayer since the late 1970s I hope it won't be long before ISIS returns to the public domain.

In their own words "ISIS raises one-quarter of its funds from non-zoological grants. This allows ISIS to continue to offer its services substantially below costs." www2.isis.org/AboutISIS/Pages/Conservation-partners.aspx

I hope public domain comes back soon! In the mean time there's this site:
Global Species

You can search either a species, and get what institutions hold it and how many, or an institution and see what species it holds.

Why did ISIS suddenly decide to become secretive over the species holding lists?
Anyone know?

that site is next to useless. Try a zoo you're familiar with and see how many mistakes there are.

Did they know other people use isis other then their members or do u think that is why they did it? You can always request information from them, but id hate to bother them. i was using that information often too. they say that nonmembers cant use it because they are changing to a new program called zim? i cant imagine why we couldn't use it tho unless each user has to have a program on their hard drive to allow it to function.

Those of you familiar with databases will know that they are only as good as the information you put in. In many cases the reason ISIS isnt accurate is because the zoo in question hasn't submitted its data, or there is an inaccuracy in there data that means it is rejected. ZIMS will speed things up beyond recognition.....
