An interesting blog from a keeper endeavouring to work with every species of cat. He also gathers some interesting data while studying them. The first blog entry is about his travels to see a captive golden cat in Gabon. Some amazing photos too. A really great article! I know about this cat and would love to photograph it myself, but it is not feasible. Even if I went to Europe (which I am in a week) and booked a direct flight on Air France from Paris, the cost is still over 1500 US dollars - more than a flight from the US to Europe. Plus the logistics of traveling in Gabon. What I really wish is I could have seen them at Port Lympne before they died out there.
Very intresting article, thanks for sharing Devilfish ! I myself was so lucky to see the African golden cat at Rotterdam Zoo several times at the end of the 1970-ties - beginning 1980-ties. Didn't have a good camera at that time so.... no pictures !
The African golden cat was also kept in another dutch zoo : Artis Amsterdam Zoo but this one I've never seen. It was donated to the zoo in July 1923.
Thanks for sharing this interesting link. And I always thought Roque Ja of the Jeff Smith's "Bone" comics was based on an oversized cougar...
....African Golden Cat Gerald Durrell caught one back in the fifties, which I believe went to London Zoo, recorded in The Bafut Beagles (if I remember correctly).
