They were 2 tigons Ben. They were accidently bred but went on to live a long life - the final part of which was/is at the National Zoo and Aquarium in Canberra.

There is a private wildlife park in Georgia (USA) that makes Ligers.

Fortunately, in Australia it is now expressly forbidden by our licensing authorities to deliberately breed such hybrids.

I saw some pics of a Liger on an American website that weights 500kgs, it was about double the size if the tiger next to it

Could you imagine what the meat bill would be like?

I saw two ligers in the UK last year and they were HUGE. They were also the goofiest animals that I have met in a long while - very sweet natured, but their size alone was frightening. They are now in Japan.

Steve were they both Adults, any idea what they may weigh?

MARK - they were both young adults. I am the world's worst estimator of weights but, compared to some lions that I once had to weigh to airfreight, I would guess that the ligers would be in excess of 400 kg each.
