Posting Photos
Old 26-08-2008

I've been posting literally hundreds and hundreds of photos from my epic summer road trip, including 250 from the National Zoo in Washington, 200 from the Cincinnati Zoo (check out the sumatran rhinos), 115 from the Indianapolis Zoo (see the amazing dolphin dome), 100 from the Pittsburgh Zoo, and there are many more from another dozen zoos. North American zoos will soon be the most represented of any in the world, and there's loads more that I'll eventually get around to uploading.

I wanted to apologize for the doubles that have been posted, even though such incidents have happened on only three occasions. Three times when I've uploaded a photo...then instantly a duplicate has appeared at the exact same time. It's always happened when the computer screen has popped up an image that says "website cannot be addressed" but I suppose that after 2,400 photos having a few duplicates isn't such a bad thing.

Also, if there are a large number of okapi photos, rhino photos, or shots of the orangutran o-line at the National Zoo it's because I've had private messages specifically requesting those photos or I realize that certain ZooBeat members enjoy seeing those animals in zoos. Cheers!

If you look at the new "Countries with the most photos" table on ZooBeat Statistics ... you'll see that the US is only 30 photos behind the UK now (although I think that is almost changing on a minute-by-minute basis!)

Wow Scott, you've really changed Zoobeat now that you've added all those pics. All this pics complete all of the reviews you wrote, cause now I have visuals of the exhibits both good and bad. Thanks for all the pictures.

Excellent work, you must be a fantastic photographer, if there was a war you'd probably be the general!

Thanks for the kind comments. Yesterday I posted 280 photos from Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo, and so everyone can make up their own minds in regards to the Lied Jungle, Desert Dome and other famous exhibits. Today it's been 170+ from the Memphis Zoo, and U.S. zoos are now way ahead of U.K. zoos in terms of photos in the gallery. I myself prefer to check out overseas zoos as I know North America's collections so well and would love to be able to one day duplicate this summer's road trip in Europe. The problem is that everything would be at least twice the price after I crossed the Atlantic!!

Yeah, Snowleopard, the dollar is cheap now, Iīm afraid. Cool for people who want to visit The US, but not the other way around.

Would be a blessing if you could afford it, though. We here at zoobeat would certainly appreciate the documentation from AN EPIC EUROPEAN TOUR from you!

Again, I think that we should all thank snowleopard for his fantastic contribution to Zoobeat!

You keep on uploading fantastic photos and it is especially interesting that you so often show us great overviews of the individual exhibits. Just today I discovered that you had uploaded hundreds of photos the last few days.

Amazing, snowleopard, amazing!!!!

Thanks Dan. The uploading of photos is amazingly time-consuming, as I load them 2 at a time and will be hitting 4,000 soon. I think that about 25% of all the photos here at ZooBeat are from me, but to be honest this is a fantastic website and "Sim" should get all of the credit for creating it.

Also, when I scroll through and look at my photos here it's interesting to note that the one that have had the most viewings are either shots that people have commented on...or exhibit shots. I figure that people all over the world have seen loads of gorillas, tigers, elephants, etc in various zoos, but they haven't seen the Columbus Zoo elephant exhibit, or the Phoenix Zoo spectacled bear exhibit, etc. Those exhibit shots keep the folks coming back for more!!

I agree - although I do love a great photo of the animals, it is the exhibits which are very interesting - especially when comparing the way different zoos do it.

Now that I have my new camera with a great wide-angle lens, I think I will be taking that to the zoo and using it just as much as the zoom lens - I'll focus more on taking photos of the zoo itself rather than just the animals.

Fantastic stuff... I haven't even begun to look through them all...

When you trip is finished and you've done reviews could you make a list of say:

==Zoo==
==Review Link==
==Gallery Link==

==Zoo==
==Review Link==
==Gallery Link==

etc, etc..?

That would fantastic and then I can take a week off to troll through it all..!

I am new to the site - and it is indeed fantastic - but I have this far not discovered anything about its "background"; I have been too busy exploring it, havenīt really thought about who took the intitiative!

So... yeah! So who is "Sim"? Whatīs the story? Have I missed something here? There is no "About"....... or "FAQ".
