Research into pygmy hippo breeding
Old 27-05-2010

For many years there has been a skew towards female pygmy hippo calves over males, RZSS is funding a research programme, based in the Ivory Coast, to compare wild births to captive births.

Interesting!
I would think that this would be a desirable situation in zoos rather than a problem, if the intention is to build the numbers rapidly.

I'm sure that there are a number of species which zoos would prefer to produce more female than male offspring; for example elephants and gorillas.
