The Bronx's style (As you already know according to your Location) is interesting with just silhouettes and explanations on botton.
On the complete opposite side of the scale is,say,Zurich which I enjoy but unfortuately doesn't do well with paths...
What I think makes a great map is if you show the paths clearly defined along with showing all the animals(Of couse excluding fish, reptiles, and insects if there's a certain house)

Really? Do you mean this map: http://www.zoo.ch/documents/Druckdaten_Zooplan_2014_DE_EN_WEB.pdf ? Which paths are not correct?
Imo, only the non developed areas (planed for future exhibits) are a little irritating (scale).

Visual Maps do some of the BEST maps ever (including San Diego's), here is their website :)

    Visual Maps's Portfolio

Please note this is their portfolio so not the best way at looking at them and that these aren't all of their maps.

Visual maps does very good maps that's right but I think sometimes the style is too similar between the different zoos.

I like for example Frankfurt's map or Gelsenkirchen's. San Diego, Antwerpen, Walsrode, Planckendael etc are all world-class maps, that's out of question, how I said: visual maps does a very good job.
