What would your ideal zoo be?

Mine would be a zoo with different sections with specific wildlife from that country packed with small carnivores and a reptile house, aviaries and aquariums in each section.

Around 300 mammal species will be present, 50 reptile species and 200 bird species as well as invertebrates and fish.

    Please share yours.

I would love a zoo, quite contrary to your concept, in wich animals will be arranged by their taxonomy, for example at one place combined enclosures for non-human primates, at other place combined enclosures for all birds, at third reptilarium, and ungulates and carnivores would be most distributed on all zoo ground.

Otherwise a small, modern zoo, with about 30,000 square metres would be ideal for me, with about 60 species of mammals (13), birds (18), reptiles (20, including venomous snakes) and frogs first (9).

Enclosures for every taxa would be multi-parts, not single enclosures. For example 4 x 225.0 square metres enclosures for several chimpanzees, or 3 x 600.0 square metres enclosures for giraffes. Snakes would have quite big enclosures, eg. about 18.0 square metres each (2x9 metres).

No petting corner in the zoo, planted with quite a lot of trees, in submediterranean area in R. Macedonia (in southeast Europe).

Very sophisticated way of functioning and sophisticated standards.

Would also provide goat parts as food for local native population of Egyptian vultures (Western subspecies) (in situ conservation), as decreasing of the availability of food is a major factor for population decline of this and other vulture species.

    Hi Batto,
Yes, this thread is placed in General zoo disscusion, but asks for Ideal zoo.. and hence I present view for mine (or other's) ideal zoo.? Maybe the creator of this thread has mistaked and put this thread in this section, animalszoos?

I agree, you two have a point, this thread does belong elsewhere. However I do appreciate your response Nikola Chavkosk :D

By placing this thread in the fantasy section you are suggesting that the ideal zoo is an unattainable goal. Surely the vision of the zoo community should be to aim for the ideal rather than accepting it as fantasy.

@ Carl Jones: you’re clearly overthinking this thread. This is not a philosophical discussion, but the common “New member wants to display a zoo pipe dream” scenario-for which Nikola is always game...

Many thanks Batto. Nikola has the wrong title for his thread. Would be good to discuss what the ideal zoo should look like,

I agree that this should be in the fantasy zoo section, but in this case it wasn't Nikola's fault.

And while a discussion of the ideal zoo would be appropriate for this forum, the question asked was for "your ideal zoo", which will result in animal lists and pipe dreams.

Perhaps Carl would like to start his own thread about the ideal zoo? I'm sure the younger members of the forum would learn much from the resulting discussion.

    :p

I think everything that is not reality, whether it is achievable or not, it should be in the fantasy section, because after all it is just in our dream, plan or fantasy.

Yet I would never arguing about some unachievable goal (eg. ''Zoo on Moon'' or not to say, some giant multi-species zoo for wich a lot of funds, efforts and experts will be needed), and maybe some new section on Zoochat like ''Plans for future'' should be created, because fantasy is unachievable.

Otherwise Batto I am always ready for arguing for establishing some smaller, more real and more-achievable, zoo, like with about 60 species of animals and built on surface from 5,000 to 30,000 m2.
