I thought the name might interest people :) It would appear that the few doucs in Western zoos are kept indoor because of temperature. However, I heard on this forum that natural substrate is bad for their digestive system. Is this true? Did San Diego keep their doucs indoors? Thank you.

I can't answer your questions but when I was in Singapore recently, I paid special attention during the presentation to how douc was pronounced. Apparently it rhymes with book.

Yes, San Diego Zoo had the douc langurs in an indoor exhibit.

Here is what the exhibit looks like: http://www.zoochat.com/39/232400632-032e7eadce-67371/

Thanks DB. That's not really what I would call an indoor enclosure though, I think an indoor exhibit is one that is in a building, rather than an enclosed outdoor exhibit as this.

I actually think I missed this exhibit, I don't recall it and I never saw any Spider Monkeys... Was it between the main entrance and the Orang exhibit?

EDIT: Actually, I think the photo you linked was the same as this one (http://www.zoochat.com/39/asian-passage-sun-bear-forest-francois-349389/), which appears to be the second of two enclosures the Doucs were held in, the first being adjacent to the Orangs, which was shut off when I visited as they were doing it up for Silvered Leaf Monkeys (which I presume replaced Spider Monkeys). So I did see this one, just with the Francois Langurs in it.
