I saw this done on a parrot forum and thought it would be fun to do here:

You might belong or be on zoochat if....

You cringe at the words "meerkat" or "Ring Tailed Lemur"

you go on pilgrimages to the "Congo Gorilla Forest"

You argue about free or protected contact the way other people argue prolife or prochoice.

Your summer plans involve going to the zoo once a week at least.

Your favorite animal growing up wass along thelines of pygmy hippo, jaguarundi, aardwolf, baikal seal or drill.

When you here someone say bongos you think aboutthe forest antelope not the drum.

You know and are disgusted by what a utilitree is.

    You hate chimps!

Like zoo pictures best when there are no pesky animals blocking the view

You welcome bad weather, because there are less people in the zoo.

You spend most of your time watching species that most visitors overlook.

Every time you see a lone person spending unusually long time in front of one enclosure, taking notes or pictures, you feel the urge to ask him, if he´s on ZooChat. :D

Every time you hear some zoo related news, you hurry to search ZooChat, if there is already a thread for that ;)

You are prepared to travel from Cheshire [England] to Frankfurt [Germany] to see a black rhinoceros - they have them about 10-20 miles away at Chester Zoo, but Frankfurt's are a different subspecies...

You spend longer than 7 seconds at an exhibit, unless it has a lion/tiger/panda/gorilla in it...

You play Zoo Tycoon 2 and fill 95% of your available space with off-show enclosures, kitchens, keeper access and keeper yards...

You begin mentally converting your own outbuildings [shed/coalhouse/outside loo] into a caiman enclosure, and even then thinking black caiman instead of spectacled!

You cringe when somebody calls says, "Look at the monkeys", when they look at chimpanzees, although you realise that New World and Old World monkeys are not related.

You wax lyrical about the only captive specimen of an unusual rodent or bird, when other people say, "I don't know why they keep ordinary rats and pigeons in the zoo."

You spend a long time trying to take a photo of an animal that other people would give up on.

You watch a New Guinea spiny anteater walk around its enclosure to count the number of toes on its front feet, as you feel it is a Barton's echidna and not a Bruijn's echidna. (I'm not the only person to have done this, but it did have 5 toes and it was a Barton's echidna).

You have lots of pictures of unusual animals, but very few people want to see your photos and moeople are more interested in the few people who appear in them.

You return several times to the same enclosure, much to the dismay of your companion, in the hope that the most obscure animal in the zoo will make an appearance. When it does, your companion wonders what all the fuss was about.

You have an unusual amount of notebooks.

Your camera lense has a handle on it.

You either visit 3 zoos in a day, or are the first car in the car park and the last car to leave.

You hold mental maps of over 15 zoos - and can remember what was in the enclosure over the lifetime of your visits.

You wonder why people bring their children to a zoo.

You still bore people about seeing
    • Cuddles the killer whale
    • Hispaniolan solendon at Frankfurt 40 years ago
    • pygmy hogs at Zurich 30 years ago
    • pacarana and tarsier at Bristol 25 years ago
    • any giant panda
    • Djoum the gorilla at Howletts
    • the Sumatran rhinos at Port Lympne
    • king cobra eggs or hatchlings

I have to confess that I am guilty of 5 of these 8 sins

Back in the old days when we had photo albums, you returned from a holiday and had album dedicated to gorilla enclosure design.

    Luv this thread!

You plan your holidays to visit zoos that have no photos in their ZooChat gallery.

    :p

One of your most thrilling moments was having seen 'Jambo' in the flesh back in 1991.

You spent about an hour watching the Cuban hutias at Schonbrunn and about 5 minutes with the Giant pandas

You always make comparisons between the Bronx's gorilla exhibit and Howlett's.
You take pics of the same exhibit from different angles while people stare at you.:D
You remember how your zoo had that very rare species, and now a common animal is in their space.
While people gawk over Meerkats, you move on to see a species of bird that nobody around you has heard of.

You find yourself in a spirited discussion that goes on for several days about how many square feet the San Diego Zoo giraffe exhibit is compared to the Bronx Zoo giraffe barn.

    Love it!

You feel the same animosity towards the current management of the San Diego Zoo as you do to George Lucas and accuse both of "ruining your childhood".

I think that the animal people at the San Diego Zoo are among the best in the world. The people making decisions to build 4D theaters and zip-lines everywhere are what give me pause. That said, zoos are very expensive to run and improve so I do see their need to find revenue streams.

Also the zoo needs a new giraffe exhibit. It isn't much larger than the Bronx Zoo giraffe barn (relatively speaking);)

You have magnets on your refrigerator of most every zoo and aquarium you've ever visited.

Your family, friends, and coworkers joking that all the animals at your local zoo must know you personally by now.

You're up until the wee hours of the morning viewing the latest animal thread posts and photos, of virtually hundreds of zoos throughout the world.

You're number one destination on vacations to Hawaii, Florida, Vancouver, Grand Cayman, etc., are the local zoos and aquariums found there.
