Judging by the look of the animal, I suspect this may be one of the kittens born last year - I rather hope this is the case at any rate, as this would mean the animal may still be young enough to hang on for another year or two before hitting the dangerous period.

      Great shot, incidentally.

Thanks! I believe he is one of the kittens born, fingers crossed he will breed! Really like this species, and would be such a shame to see them go, hope it works at Port Lympne!
It could be another african small cat species wiped out from captivity in Europe, PL also had the last african golden cats which have now passed away leaving only 1 in captivity in the Congo.

Indeed - and Howletts had the last marbled cat within the UK.

Oddly enough, the last collection in Europe to hold said taxon - Parco Faunistico La Torbiera in Italy - was also the last collection in Europe to hold Pampas Cat, and went out of both taxa at roughly the same time in late 1995.

Of course, these two taxa were never found in great numbers, whilst the Black-Footed Cat was pretty common and breeding very well in Europe up until the last decade or so. Wuppertal alone held 16,8 animals at one point in the 1990's.

It has to be said though that PL have an incredible small cat department and collection, breeding well and nice enclosures!
