Hello! I've been searching for a complete list of animals in Bronx Zoo, but I haven't found any results. Can someone here tell me a complete list of animals in Bronx Zoo? (Only if you know a complete list) Otherwise, it's OK with just some of the major species. I would love to know all the species in Jungle World...
I had this year, a list of all the animals I saw in the Bronx Zoo. How updated is this list? If this is still a current list of what animals the zoo has on exhibit incredible list love it thks
https://sites.google.com/site/werrtydryytucf/bronx-zoo I composed this list after three visits in 2011. Really the only difference that I can see between what they have now and what I recorded is that the Blesbok and Chinese Alligators are gone. Over 2012 I've noticed they've brought in lots of new species to their indoor exhibits so I will be making a visit within the next two months so I'll make sure to look for any new stuff. NOTE: The Bronx Zoo has Greater Mouse Deer, not Lesser Mouse Deer. That was a mistake by me and I have to change that soon. ~Thylo
Per the Zoo's own website, there are over 600 species at the Bronx Zoo, so the list is loooooooooooooooong!
Too bad they only mention 1/7th of the animals... Am I the only one that finds zoo websites that don't list ALL their animals to be increasingly annoying? - Zoosites with complete animal lists: perfect! - Zoosites with 3/4 of the animals: OK - Zoosites with 1/2 of the animals: Mediocre - Zoosites with 1/$ of the animals: Annoying - Zoosites that don't list their animals at all: Horrible... I feel the same way about zoo maps in zoo's web pages.
No zoo lists ALL of their animals. They can't. On-exhibit collections change constantly, especially when it comes to birds and herps, and it'd be extremely difficult to keep a complete up-to-date list of everything on-exhibit. I do agree that Bronx should list more species, especially since some of those listed are incorrect, but listing every species would be an impossible task for the zoo. ~Thylo
It has been done; Just look at Barcelona Zoo's alphabetic animal list: Detail However, I probably shouldn't expect it for EVERY zoo website.
While that is a lot better than most zoos, I still doubt ALL of their species are listed. As I said before, zoos often change their collections especially when it comes to birds and herps so if that site really did list all their species you'd probably notice species leaving and new ones popping up quite often. ~Thylo
A small number of zoo websites have fairly good species lists. One that seems to be quite complete is Budapest's which includes off show species as well as those on show. Species list | Zoo in the heart of Budapest Not sure how up to date it is though.
Hello, I'll be at Bronx in a couple of weeks or so. I've heard that many interesting species are not signed. Somewhat that is unsigned but I can't miss in terms of rarity? I've passed long time without heard any new about the very dreamed green junglefowl, they're still here? How easy is to spot it and photograph it?
As of a few weeks ago yes and easy. The mouse deer was in World of Birds instead of JungleWorld (though there were no signs for it in the aviary. Also Green honeycreeper in World of Birds and sometimes Peruvian pelican in the Aquatic Bird house.
The Green Junglefowl are on-exhibit in World of Birds and are fairly easy to spot in the two-story Asian jungle habitat. Photography is significantly more difficult, however. There's also a Sri Lankan Junglefowl free-roaming in JungleWorld but luck is needed to see it. As far as unsigned species go, the only thing I can think of off the top of my head are the Mary River Turtles which are exhibited with the Merten's Water Monitor in the Zoo Center. When I visited last weekend, however, I noted that the zoo seems to be in the process of replacing signs in a few exhibits, leading to less than desirable signage atm, especially in the Aquatic Bird House. ~Thylo
I actually only noted one pelicans between the aviary and the house on Saturday, which is worrying. I'm not sure if it was a Brown or Peruvian. ~Thylo
Saw at least 2 in the scarlet ibis habitat a month ago. Not entirely sure of the species although at the time I was leaning towards Peruvian.
Thanks a lot for the info! Wish me luck to manage to photograph decently the Green Junglefowl, and the also wished Ceylon junglefowl! Curious to see pelicans mixed with ibises. A hungry pelican could potentially gulp an ibis, I think... Anyway I already have pics of all pelican species - the peruvian at Berlin - so it would be not exciting for me, contrary to the very dreamed junglefowl of both species
