Went to the zoo today just to check out the Archerfish feeding in the Australian Riverbank exhibit within the Amphibians and Reptiles building. It was really cool to watch the Archerfish blasting the crickets off the stump with the turtles waiting below to catch a quick snack... check it out on this video I just posted to youtube. They have been doing an archerfish feeding presentation at the Shedd Aquarium in the Rivers Gallery since the summer and it has been very popular. I agree that it is a really cool experience.
It's done in the Australia exhibit at the National Aquarium of Baltimore. I actually got to hold a cricket above the water for them to shoot the water at it.
Vancouver Aquarium has had an archerfish feeding presentation in the past, and I suspect that there are quite a few establishments with the same mini-show each day.
I think most institutions that have archerfish feed them this way. Better enrichment if they actually have to hunt than throwing crickets in the water. It makes perfect sense. Sea World San Diego who used to have them fed this way, the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse feeds them this way too. As for presentations though, most zoos will not publicly announce feeding times for animals like archerfish or matamatas.
