    Zoo Update

The zoo has made a lot of changes in the winter off season and I will try to sum all of the changes I noticed and found out on my visit today right here.

    Exhibit Changes
Lots of animals have been switched around in the zoo this year. The original snow leopard exhibit held a solitary bald eagle on my visit. the old bald eagle exhibit is now home to the zoos turkey vulture. The bald eagle exhibit served as the nursery last year for the three american black bear cubs the zoo rescued but they have since outgrown this exhibit. This has caused a flurry of change around the front of the zoo. The zoo has announced that they are renovating the cheetah exhibit to be the new black bear exhibit. This has caused the zoo to move the cheetahs into the old african wild dog exhibit and to move the african wild dogs into a new constructed exhibit right across from the mexican gray wolves. The zoo has also recently finished construction of a new indoor outdoor exhibit in wild africa for their aldabara tortoise Al. The enclosure is about two times the size of Al's old enclosure. His old enclosure will eventually be an outdoor home for radiated tortoises. the zoo has also added a new blue poison dart frog exhibit in the conservation outpost next to the panamanian golden frog exhibit. The zoo has also updated the signage field guides in wild africa for the savannah and both aviaries with higher quality pictures and an updated species list.. the zoo has also put additional signage in the miller children zoo that has pictures and names for all the animals living in the children's zoo and the name themes.(All the goats are named after Harry Potter characters, and all the rabbits are named after Lord of the Rings characters.:D) The zoo no longer has any goats in the african farm.

    Animal changes
The zoo hasn't had any major animal births this year but they have welcomed numerous prairie dog pups. They have also had the addition of a barred owl that is non-releasable to the zoo. The owl is living in the old raven aviary next to the laughing kookaburras. On my visit there wasn't a single wallaroo out on exhibit. The zoo is also just down to a single cape barren goose that is now living in the children's zoo with a flemish giant rabbit as a companion. The zoo has also welcomed cattle back to the zoo's children zoo for the first time in five years at leat. they now have a scottish highland cow named Bedalia. A lot of animal changes have happened in wild africa this year. The zoo no longer has greater kudu in the main plain exhibit. Instead, they have now added damaras zebra to the plain exhibit even though they already had grant zebras in the exhibit. The zoo has also replaced the white bellied go away bird in the forests edge aviary with grey go away birds.

The zoo has also now renovated the old mara and military macaw exhibit to serve as a new outdoor cotton top tamarin exhibit. This year has been a major year of renovation for the zoo.

The zoo will be opening for the season on earth day. The main event on that day will be the opening of a new american black bear exhibit where the cheetah exhibit use to be. This will be the first time in over a year that the three orphan cubs they rescued from Alaska will be on exhibit.
