Caldwell Zoo: A natural for family fun!

Caldwell Zoo is located in Tyler, Texas, and was first opened to the public in 1954. For almost 50 years admission was free, and finally in 2003 an entrance fee was charged to help offset expansion plans.

Featured Exhibits:

East Africa

The premier set of habitats for this tiny yet acclaimed zoo. Wildebeest, greater kudu, impala, warthog, Grevy's zebra, african elephant, giraffe, lion, lesser flamingo, ibis, crowned crane, dik-dik, black rhino, cheetah, blue monkey, black-backed jackal, lemur, black-footed penguin, cichlid fish, spurred tortoise, bongo, yellow-backed duiker, colobus monkey, leopard and a variety of other African birds are represented in this area of the zoo.

Native Texas

Animal species: coati, gray fox, otter, pelican, wild turkey, longhorn cattle, deer, bison, owl, crested caracara, hawk, bald eagle, bobcat, ocelot, jaguar, mountain lion, turtle and alligator.

Other exhibits include a Texas Reptile/Aquarium, South America, Entry Plaza Islands, Wild Bird Walkabout and Petting Pen.
