While watching some videos on YouTube we came across this old one when the zoo had pandas in the current bonobo exhibit. We liked it and wanted to share:

I remember waiting for hours in line to finally get a chance to see the pandas through those big glass windows. When you finally got up there, the bears were usually asleep.

That's a great find, team tapir; thanks for sharing. I'm heading north tomorrow for a long overdue visit to the Columbus Zoo. Photos and any news, changes, and/or observations will follow.

In that article it said The zoos Black Rhinos will be a part if this exhibit so I guess that means the zoo will try to mix the rhino with the hoof stock(never have seen black rhinos mixed), the main savanna is split into two parts one holding rhinos the other with the hoof stock or you will be able to see the current black rhino exhibit from the new area. Also I hope the article was not lying about the zoo getting wilde*beest. It sounds like the watering hole exhibit, Number 3 on the map, will be a rotational exhibit.

Thanks for the article Zooplantman.

According to a picture of the map posted by Jack Hanna, the rhinos will be in the upper-left portion of the veldt.

It looks awesome. I hope there are Wildebeest. When they were planning Trails the reports mentioned "Wildebeest Impala and Kudu". The Kudu were in place but left, Wildebeest won't happen, and I am sure Impala was just a design hold over because CLR must really like Impalas (see Giants at Dallas.

I hope the cheetah exhibit is setup like Cincinnati's where you can see them run at top speed (minus their horrible guest flow problems when a show is over).

I wish more zoos would invest in hoofstock. They aren't that hard to take care of.

It looks like the African Veldt will end up housing the Black Rhinos, but what else? Maybe some of the larger herbivores of Africa, like the Cape Buffalo and Giant Elands that Jusko was just talking about.

I have no such queries about the meerkats, lions, or cheetahs, but I do have some things to say about the large mixed exhibit. What are the confirmed animals so far? From all the information we've gathered so far, it looks like it will include giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, ostriches, gazelles, and impala, all in that one enclosure. I personally would like it if they included Greater Kudu, but that's just a preference.

As for the monkeys, it will probably end up being Olive or Chacma baboons, but I'm not sure. I myself would like to see Green Vervet Monkeys, but that's also a preference.

The final things I wanted to talk about were hippos and warthogs. These were both included in the first layout sketch of the exhibit, but are not in the new one. I hope they include them, because they are both unusual and little known creatures, and they would both go with the theme of the African Savannah. I think people should know more about them.
