The Death of Mac
Old 11-11-2008

A really sad event has happened at houston zoo Mac, has pasted on... this is quite sad being that Tess and Tucker were getting on really well with Shanti and now Tucker doesn't have a play-mate anymore.

This is tragic as he has been a star of the Houston Zoo for quite some time now. Its really annoying when everytime I go to zoo beat and find anextremely depressing article like this. In September it was Misha at Hogle Zoo, In October it was Dottie, and now in November its Mac. Extremely depressing and I really can't believe this happened.

How many others elephants have actually died of herpes virus? I didn't think there were that many. The only other one I can think of is Ganesh at the Columbus Zoo.

Ones that come to mind for me is the recent one in Calgary, and Hansa at Woodland Park Zoo. Also I believe this is not the first herpes death in Houston if I recall.

Um, Nisha in Springfield Dickerson Park zoo also sadly died from Herpes,

also ,I personally was looking forward into what Mac would be as a gorwn up, being so large at birth already and presuming from his father he most likely would of grown tusks,

Precocious Elephant Dies, Zoo Mourns, "Mac" Dies Suddenly From Incurable Disease; Was Largest Of His Kind Born In Captivity - CBS News

This article claims that 7 of the elephants to have died from the herpesvirus have been at the Houston Zoo. That is one sad number.
